MUSE Presents Our Dream Season
As a center for music education, MUSE will host events featuring a wide range of musical genres, with performances by both local and national artists. Here is an example of what a typical season at MUSE might look like in the years ahead:
Classical: Midsummer’s Music: Grieg Piano Concerto and Jeannie Yu
After her triumphant performances last season of Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto throughout Door County, pianist Jeannie Yu returns this season to offer Grieg’s magnificent romantic treasure. Midsummer’s Music has discovered a stunningly beautiful arrangement with string quartet that will feature Yu in all her radiance.
BandStand: Fitzpatrick/Mueller
Drums and electronics—subtle rhythms and sparse soundscapes—Jon Mueller and Andrew Fitzpatrick present their most recent collaboration. An American percussionist and composer, Mueller has performed with artists like Rhys Chatam and Asmus Tietchens, and has performed as a member of the bands Pele, Collections of Colonies of Bees, Volcano Choir and Mind Over Mirrors. Fitzpatrick has performed extensively as a member of the bands Bon Iver, Volcano Choir, and All Tiny Creatures
Patchwork New Music: Beneath the Waves: The Griffon String Quartet with Eric Lewis/Paul Taylor
Beneath the Waves is a collaboration between blues/folk musician Eric Lewis and the Griffon String Quartet. With the exception of “Salt Creek,” all tunes were written by Lewis, with string arrangements provided by Sam Shoup of Memphis, TN. Lewis says, “It has been a great desire of mine to collaborate with the Griffon String Quartet and Midsummer’s Music for some time now. This is a dream come true to perform this music with such high caliber musicians”
World: Three Latin Americans Walk Into a…
Composers Xavier Beteta (Guatemala), Josh Rodriguez (Colombia/USA), and Richard Scofano (Argentina), offer three world premieres—a rich sonic feast presenting eclectic aesthetics that draw inspiration from classical, contemporary, and Latin American dance and folk music.
Jazz: Swingin’ Door Big Band
Imagine the sounds of 1930s style big band performed in the enchanting beauty of Door County—the mellow strains of famous melodies like “Take the ‘A’ Train,” “In the Mood,” and “Chattanooga Choo Choo” punctuated by percussion and brass hits! As part of Door County’s own 80+ piece Peninsula Symphonic Band, the Swingin’ Door Big Band is composed of professional musicians who live right here in Door County. Spend an evening with the Swingin’ Door Big Band as they take you through the hits of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and more!
This is just a small sampling of the kinds of performances that will be made possible because of your financial support for MUSE.
